What is Shift Assignment?

- Shift Assignment in ERPNext assigns working shift schedules (Morning, Evening, Night) to employees for a date range, driving attendance and overtime calculations.
Assigning Shifts
Go to HR → Shift Assignment → New. Select Employee, Shift Type, and date range. You can bulk-assign shifts to a department. ERPNext uses the active Shift Assignment to determine the expected check-in/check-out window for attendance calculation.
Shift Rotations and Overtime
For rotating shifts, create multiple Shift Assignments with non-overlapping date ranges. Configure overtime rules in the Shift Type record (e.g., time logged beyond 9 hours counts as overtime). ERPNext calculates overtime hours for payroll automatically.
