What is Item Variant?
- Item Variant
- An Item Variant in ERPNext is a specific combination of attributes (size, colour, grade) derived from an Item Template, each with its own stock and pricing.
Creating Item Variants
Mark an Item as "Has Variants" and define Attributes (e.g., Size: XS, S, M, L, XL). Go to the Variants tab and click "Create Variants" — ERPNext generates all combinations automatically. Each variant gets its own Item Code and can have individual prices and stock.
Variant Pricing and Reports
Prices can be set at template level (inherited by all variants) or overridden per variant. Stock reports work at the variant level, giving accurate inventory for each SKU. The Item Variant Details report shows stock across all variants of a template.
