What is Item Group?

- Item Groups in ERPNext organise items into a hierarchical category tree, enabling group-level pricing rules, reports, and website navigation.
Building the Item Group Tree
Go to Stock → Item Group → New. Create parent groups (Raw Materials, Finished Goods, Consumables) and child groups (Steel, Aluminium, Plastic). Each Item is assigned to a leaf group. The tree drives filters in stock reports and the ERPNext website shop.
Group-Level Settings
Item Groups can inherit tax templates, expense accounts, and income accounts from the group rather than setting them on every item. This reduces setup time when onboarding hundreds of similar items.
