What is Serial Number?
- Serial Number
- A Serial Number in ERPNext uniquely identifies each individual unit of a product, enabling precise tracking of warranty, location, and transaction history.
Enabling Serial Number Tracking
On the Item master, check "Has Serial No". Each receipt, transfer, delivery, and return must specify individual serial numbers. ERPNext maintains a Serial Number ledger showing the current warehouse and status of every serialised item.
Warranty and AMC Tracking
Each Serial Number stores purchase date, warranty expiry, AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) expiry, and customer ownership history. Link serial numbers to Service Orders or Issues in the CRM module for after-sales support tracking.
