What is Routing?

- A Routing in ERPNext is a reusable sequence of manufacturing operations (with time estimates) that can be applied to multiple BOMs instead of defining operations individually.
Creating a Routing
Go to Manufacturing → Routing → New. Add operation rows with the operation name, workstation, time in minutes, and cost per operation. Assign the Routing to a BOM — ERPNext auto-populates the BOM's operations tab, saving setup time for similar products.
Routing for Lead Time Calculation
ERPNext uses operation times from the Routing to calculate planned start and end dates for Work Orders. With Workstation capacity defined, the system can detect scheduling conflicts and suggest alternative timings.
