What is Naming Series?

- Naming Series in ERPNext defines the auto-generated document number format for each DocType, e.g., INV-.YYYY.-.###### for Sales Invoices.
Configuring Naming Series
Go to Settings → Naming Series. Select the DocType and define the series format. Use tokens: .YYYY. (year), .MM. (month), .DD. (day), .##### (zero-padded sequence), or literal text. Multiple series can be defined; users select which series to use when creating a new document.
Series by Company or Branch
Different companies or branches can use different naming series (e.g., PUNE-INV-.YYYY.- and MUM-INV-.YYYY.-). This is configured by adding the prefix to the series and assigning it via a custom script or the Naming Series page per company.
