- Custom Fields in ERPNext let you add new data fields to any standard DocType without modifying core code, preserving upgradability.
Adding Custom Fields
Go to Settings → Custom Fields → New. Select the DocType, field name, label, field type (Data, Link, Select, Table, etc.), and position (before or after an existing field). Custom Fields appear instantly on the form without any server restart.
Custom Field Best Practices
Prefix custom field names with your company initials (e.g., "inf_po_reference") to avoid clashes with future ERPNext fields. Use Custom Fetch From to auto-fill a custom field from a linked document's field, reducing data entry errors.
