What is Milestone?

- Milestones in ERPNext mark significant checkpoints in a project (e.g., Design Sign-off, Go-Live), used to track progress and trigger billing or notifications.
Setting Up Milestones
Milestones are configured on the Project under the "Expected End Date" and task completion tracking. Advanced milestone tracking uses Automation Rules — when a task marked as a milestone moves to "Completed", ERPNext can trigger a notification or create a Sales Invoice for the milestone payment.
Milestone-Based Billing
For fixed-price projects with milestone billing, link each milestone payment to a specific task. When the task is completed and the milestone approved, create a Sales Invoice for that instalment. ERPNext tracks % billed vs contract value on the Project record.
