- ERP Data Migration is the process of extracting, cleaning, transforming, and loading historical data from the old system into the new ERP before go-live.
Data Migration Steps
Step 1: Extract data from legacy system (CSV export, database dump). Step 2: Clean and deduplicate (remove inactive customers, fix inconsistent formats). Step 3: Map to new ERP data structure (field mapping template). Step 4: Load via ERP import tool and validate counts and totals match.
What to Migrate
Typically migrate: Master data (Customers, Suppliers, Items, Employees), Opening Balances (account-wise as of cut-over date), Outstanding Transactions (unpaid invoices, open purchase orders), and current stock (via Stock Reconciliation with quantities and rates). Historical transaction data is usually kept in the old system for reference only.
