What is Data Import?
- Data Import
- ERPNext's Data Import tool lets you bulk-upload records for any DocType via a CSV or Excel file, with template download, validation, and error reporting.
Using Data Import
Go to Settings → Data Import → New. Select the DocType, choose Import Type (Insert New or Update Existing). Download the template CSV, fill your data, and upload. ERPNext validates all rows before importing, listing errors per row. Fix and re-upload to complete the import.
Import Best Practices
Import in this sequence during go-live: Item Groups → Items → Customers → Suppliers → Addresses → Contacts → Opening Balances. Use the "Override Existing Values" option carefully — it updates all matching records without a confirmation step.
