What is Deferred Revenue?
When a customer pays for a service before it is delivered, the payment cannot be recognized as income immediately. ERPNext defers it and recognizes it proportionally over the service period.
Setup in ERPNext
On the Sales Invoice item, enable "Enable Deferred Revenue", set the deferred account, service start date, and service end date. ERPNext generates automated journal entries each month.
Why It Matters
Proper deferred revenue accounting ensures compliance with accounting standards (Ind AS 115, IFRS 15) and gives accurate monthly P&L statements.
