What is Journal Entry?
- Journal Entry
- A double-entry accounting document in ERPNext used to record financial transactions manually outside of standard invoices or payment entries.
How to Create a Journal Entry in ERPNext
Go to Accounting → Journal Entry → New. Add at least one debit row and one credit row, selecting the account, cost centre, project, and party (Customer/Supplier). ERPNext validates that total debits equal credits before allowing submission.
Common Use Cases
Journal Entries handle opening balances, bank charges, depreciation, write-offs, inter-company transfers, and correcting mis-posted invoices. Use "Reverse Journal Entry" to instantly create a reversal entry.
