What is Role and Permission?

- ERPNext's Role-based Permission system controls who can Read, Write, Create, Delete, Submit, Cancel, and Amend each DocType, ensuring data security and segregation of duties.
Configuring Permissions
Go to Settings → Role Permissions Manager. Select a DocType and see all roles with their permission levels. Grant or revoke Read/Write/Create/Delete/Submit/Cancel/Amend/Report/Import/Export permissions per role. Changes apply immediately across all users with that role.
Field-Level and Document-Level Permissions
Beyond DocType-level, ERPNext supports field-level permissions (hide sensitive fields for certain roles) and User Permission restrictions (a user only sees documents where a field equals their linked branch or territory, e.g., salespeople see only their customers).
